All Interested surf photographers are asked to submit a QuickTime Movie (.MOV) containing a 5 minute slide show of your images set to music. Your Slideshow should offer a broad scope of your action sport/lifestyle photography portfolio.

Photographers must submit a slideshow in the QuickTime file format in the following size; Medium resolution (640x360) from iMovie (best app).

Photographers are welcome to use any software platform for preparing their show:
(Keynote, Power Point, Final Cut Pro, etc.), however slide shows MUST be rendered in QUICKTIME FORMAT (.MOV) saved in a medium size (640x480). If you do not have QuickTime on your computer you can download it at www.apple.com/quicktime/download Slideshows submitted in any format other than QuickTime will be automatically disqualified.

Export Help:

iMovie: In Share tab go to Export Movie. Under Size to export check Medium. Export.
Keynote and PowerPoint: In Share Tab go to Export Quicktime. Select 640x480 Dimensions.

Important. Please note: To be considered, your final QuickTime files should be no larger than 300MB.

Tip: Build your iMovie with Jpegs sized to a minimum size of 1280 pixels x 683 pixels

Tip: If you’re building your slideshow in PowerPoint or KeyNote, the frame size is 1024 (width) x 768 (height) pixels. Slideshow Rules and Regulations

All photographers are reminded that the FTLF Awards presentation is a celebration of still images and that judging is based on overall impression.

The judges will be looking at the contestants’ ability to present outstanding photography combined with a soundtrack in order to create a stunning and compelling show.

This show is to be about the single image: the “decisive moment” if you will. The show that is deemed by the judges to be the best overall presentation of decisive moments will be chosen as the winner. That stated, the following guidelines and restrictions have been created to guide you In this process:

  1. While we recognize that digitally enhancing or manipulating images is part of the average photographer’s process – PLEASE BE AWARE that over manipulation of images and over production of shows may work against you in the judging process.
  2. No words, titles, symbols or graphics can be added. (This includes title and end slides)
  3. Using music or audio to accompany the show is mandatory. Candidates must include a soundtrack within their photo presentation.
  4. No more than one image may appear on screen at the same time, however dissolves and fades are allowed.
  5. No morphs (multiple images in a sequence projected within the same frame) are allowed.
  6. While sequences are allowed, be aware that rapid-fire projection of sequences to simulate motion is contrary to the spirit of what the judges are looking for and may not make a favorable impression on the judges.
  7. Recomposing (moving elements within an image from their original position or adding elements from other images) is not allowed.
  8. Zooming and panning of images during the presentation is strictly prohibited.
  9. Slideshows need to be between 3 and 5 minutes. Anything over 5 minutes will be disqualified.

*Please Note: Judges have the right to automatically disqualify a photographer from the competition if any of the above rules have been violated. We remind you again that blatant over manipulation, rapid-fire sequencing and overproduced shows may work against you in the judging process. Please also keep in mind that the entire slideshow must be the sole work of the creator of the images.
