Larry’s Legacy

Devoted, Passionate, Intense, Perfectionistic.   Most people in Surf Culture knew that these characteristics described Larry and his photography well.  What his family and his friends know is that this describes Larry in all aspects of his life.

Each spring, the board of FTL will announce the amount of money available, make a call for entries, and make an application and application guidelines available. Applications will be due mid-summer, and will be reviewed by an advisory panel. Recipients will be announced on October 10, the anniversary of Larry’s passing.

  1. “The Follow the Light grant has marked a turning point in my career, it gave me the motivation and support I needed to pursue photography and to make my dreams a reality. When I applied for the grant I had no idea it what it would turn into, and as I look back over the last 2 years I cannot believe the accomplishments I was able achieve because of this grant. I honestly feel I owe all my success to the Follow the Light Foundation and the group of people working behind it. Since the grant I have taken a staff photographer position at Water magazine and Surfline.com, I also am in the finishing process of designing my book, the California Surf Project, which will be released spring of 09. Along with traveling all the way around the world including Indonesia, Iceland, Canada, Dubai, Oman, Thailand and various other locations, I feel eternally grateful to Follow the Light for the support this grant has offered me and in helping me pursue these dreams and make them a reality.”
